Ian McDonald Architect PLLC is a full-service architecture firm based on Shelter Island and focused on residential projects that are highly customized to the needs of each client.

It is the goal of the office to develop traditional style architecture that meets today’s use and functional needs through a commitment to design excellence and attention to detail. The firm strongly believes that the working relationship between architect and client is what ultimately determines the success of any project. Each house is carefully detailed and designed with the lifestyle and individuality of the client in mind.

Ian McDonald, Architect earned a Masters in Architecture from Syracuse University School of Architecture in 1995. Prior to starting his own practice in 2002, he worked in Manhattan renovating Park Avenue flats and Upper East and West Side townhouses. Since basing his office on Shelter Island, he has been involved with high-end residential design in New York and surrounding areas.

The office currently provides services for Shelter Island, The Hamptons and the North Fork. Ian McDonald Architect is registered in the States of New York (NY), Connecticut (CT), and Vermont (VT) and is associated with the American Institute of Architects (AIA), where he was the 2008 Peconic Chapter President.  He is registered with, and is currently seeking LEED certification from, the United States Green Building Council and is affiliated with the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB). Ian McDonald Architect is a member of the Town of Shelter Island Planning Board.
